Invisalign vs Braces: How They Compare
Both Invisalign and braces are orthodontic solutions offered at The Dome MedDental Clinic in Dubai, and neither is universally better; the right one depends on your case. Invisalign uses a series of clear, custom-made, removable aligners and, per our team, is ideal for mild to moderate misalignments. Metal and ceramic braces use fixed brackets and a flexible archwire and remain a trusted way to address even the most complex orthodontic issues. Both can correct overbites, underbites, crossbites and open bites and both finish with a retainer to hold your new smile in place.
The practical differences come down to visibility, whether the appliance is removable and the type of case. Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible and can be taken out for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing. Braces are fixed in place; ceramic braces use tooth-coloured brackets for a more discreet look, while metal braces are made from durable stainless steel and suit patients of all ages.
How Each Treatment Works
With Invisalign, our Specialist Orthodontist assesses your teeth and uses ClinCheck 3D planning software to map how your teeth will move. A series of custom aligners, made from SmartTrack material, is then produced. You wear them for at least 22 hours a day, remove them only for eating, drinking anything other than water and oral hygiene, and switch to a new set every one to two weeks. A retainer maintains the result once treatment is complete.
Braces work differently. Our orthodontists attach a bracket to each tooth and connect them with a flexible archwire. Adjustments to the wire create targeted pressure that gradually guides your teeth into position, and every step is planned and monitored. As with Invisalign, a retainer is used afterwards to keep teeth from shifting back.
Which One Is Right for You
Choosing between Invisalign and braces depends on your individual needs and preferences. According to our clinic, Invisalign suits mild to moderate misalignments and patients who want a discreet, removable option, while metal and ceramic braces can handle even complex cases. When deciding between the two types of braces, the main factors are how discreet you want the appliance to be and your budget, with ceramic braces favoured for aesthetics and metal braces as the more affordable choice.
The most reliable way to decide is a consultation. Our Specialist Orthodontist reviews your teeth and jaws and recommends the option best suited to your dental condition and desired outcome.
Why The Dome MedDental Clinic
The Dome MedDental Clinic in JLT, Dubai is a multi-specialty practice with an internationally trained team. For orthodontics, our before-and-after cases include treatments carried out by Dr Rami Nahal, one of our Orthodontists. For Invisalign, the clinic uses ClinCheck 3D planning and SmartTrack aligner material, and treatment is delivered by our orthodontic team rather than as an off-the-shelf product.
Because we offer metal braces, ceramic braces and Invisalign under one roof, you are not locked into a single method before you have been assessed. Your orthodontist can recommend the approach that genuinely fits your case.
What It Costs
There are no fixed prices for Invisalign or braces, because the cost depends on the type of treatment and its complexity. Our team notes that metal braces are generally the more affordable option, while Invisalign may be more expensive, but the only accurate figure is the personalised quote your orthodontist provides at your consultation after assessing your teeth. We do not publish set prices for either treatment.

Frequently asked questions
Is Invisalign better than braces?
Neither is universally better. At The Dome MedDental Clinic, Invisalign suits mild to moderate misalignments and offers a clear, removable option, while metal and ceramic braces can correct even complex orthodontic cases. Our Specialist Orthodontist recommends the right one for you at a consultation.
How much do Invisalign and braces cost in Dubai?
There is no set price. The cost depends on the type of treatment and its complexity. Our team notes metal braces are generally more affordable and Invisalign may be more expensive, but your orthodontist gives you a personalised quote at your consultation after assessing your teeth. The clinic does not publish fixed prices.
How long does treatment take?
It depends on your case. Invisalign treatment typically takes 12 to 24 months. For orthodontic treatment generally, our clinic notes minor corrections take around 6 to 12 months and moderate to severe cases 18 to 36 months. Your orthodontist gives you an estimated timeline at your consultation.
Are the braces at MedDental noticeable?
It depends which you choose. Ceramic braces use clear or tooth-coloured brackets that blend with your natural teeth for a more discreet look, while metal braces are made from durable stainless steel. Invisalign aligners are a separate, virtually invisible option.
Can adults get Invisalign or braces?
Yes. Our clinic states orthodontic treatment is effective for adults as well as children, and Invisalign works for both teens and adults. For children, we follow the American Association of Orthodontists recommendation of a first orthodontic check-up by age 7.
Do I need to wear a retainer after Invisalign or braces?
Yes. With both Invisalign and braces, a retainer is used after treatment to maintain your new alignment and prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original position.
